How does laser skin rejuvenation work?
Collagen provides the support network to our skin. As we age, the collagen breaks down causing lines and wrinkles. The laser works by stimulating collagen production. As the new collagen is generated, lines and wrinkles are decreased. Additionally, years of sun exposure can cause discoloration, large pores, and pigmented or red areas on the skin. Patients report, and studies have confirmed, that this procedure results in a refreshed appearance, smoother skin texture, an even skin tone, and a decrease in pore size. Those with difficult acne scarring will also notice a marked improvement. On specific settings it can also help to clear stubborn pigmentation from melasma and certain birthmarks as well as tattoos and unwanted hair growth.
How Long Does It Last?
Results from the 15 minute laser procedure last about 3 to 4 weeks. Your skin should look finer, smoother, brighter and clearer. Over the longer term, though, the benefits are a slowing down of the aging process as damage caused by sun exposure and the environment are reversed and collagen and elastin levels are boosted. Multiple treatments would most likely be needed in order to create improvement of the affected areas. The delivery of thermal energy to the sebaceous gland also acts to partially “shrink” the gland, reducing sebum production and further acne outbreaks. The laser also speeds up cell activity, helping to clear pigmentation marks from old acne outbreaks.
Post Procedure & Recovery
This procedure involves no downtime. Any slight redness or flushing should subside within an hour of treatment and for our female patients, is easily covered with powder and makeup.
Will There be Any Pain/Discomfort?
Any slight discomfort experienced during the treatment can be minimized with the option of having a numbing cream applied 30 minutes before the procedure.
