Mounjaro
Personalised Weight Management

Mounjaro is a prescription medicine (active ingredient: tirzepatide). It is prescribed for adults to treat type 2 diabetes and to help with weight management and weight control.
This medicine is designed to work alongside lifestyle modifications. To achieve the best results, it should be part of a plan that includes a reduced-calorie diet and regular physical activity. In a major clinical trial, participants with obesity or who were overweight experienced an average weight reduction of up to 20.9% over 72 weeks.
It is intended to be used as part of a broader management plan that includes diet and exercise. Your GP or specialist will have prescribed this to you based on your specific health needs. At Bua, our partner clinicians work with patients to create bespoke plans which encompass lifestyle adjustments, and where suitable, medication treatment.
How much weight can I lose on Mounjaro?
Clinical studies have shown patients can lose up to 22% of their weight by following a combination of weekly Mounjaro injections over an extended period and consistent lifestyle changes.
How to Administer Mounjaro
Before you use Mounjaro for the first time, your healthcare provider should show you how to inject it. Always read the full “Instructions for Use” leaflet provided with your medicine.
- Prepare: Inspect the vial. Do not use it if it is damaged, or if the medicine looks cloudy or has particles in it.
- Choose Your Injection Site: You can inject into the skin of your stomach (abdomen), your thigh, or your upper arm.
- Rotate Your Site: You must change (rotate) your injection site each week. This helps reduce the risk of skin problems.
- Inject: Follow the steps in the “Instructions for Use” to prepare and inject your dose.
- Dispose: Dispose of your used syringe and needle safely in a sharps container. Never share or reuse your needles or syringes.
Important Note: Every time you inject, select a new location that is at least a finger’s width apart from the previous site. Rotating your injection sites is crucial for preventing the development of persistent, hard lumps (fatty nodules), which can form and reduce how well your medication works.
The Potential Side Effects of Mounjaro
Like all medicines, Mounjaro can cause side effects, although not everybody will experience them. It’s important to be aware of what to look for.
Very Common Side Effects (may affect more than 1 in 10 people): Nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, and vomiting. These are often not severe and tend to decrease over time. Low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia) is very common when Mounjaro is used with other diabetes medicines that contain a sulphonylurea or insulin. Your doctor may need to adjust the dose of your other medicines to reduce this risk. Signs of low blood sugar include headache, drowsiness, weakness, dizziness, feeling hungry, confusion, irritability, fast heartbeat, and sweating.
Seek Immediate Medical Attention
- Pancreatitis: Symptoms include severe pain in the stomach and back that does not go away.
- Severe Allergic Reaction (Rare): Symptoms can include swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, with difficulty breathing or swallowing.
How quickly will i see results on Mounjaro?
Mounjaro® starts working on your biology immediately, but weight loss is a gradual process. Most patients notice a reduction in appetite within the first few days. In terms of weight scale changes, a safe and sustainable rate of weight loss is typically considered to be 0.5kg to 1kg (1-2 lbs) per week.
