JUVÉDERM® is a hyaluronic acid gel-based dermal filler that restores the skins’ volume and density as well as, facial deeper structures.

JUVÉDERM® consists of hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in the body that primarily helps to hydrate and smooth the skin.

The product is applied mainly in the areas:

  • Nasolabial folds (lines around the nose to the corners of the mouth)
  • Enlargement and hydration of lips
  • Marionette lines, also called melomental folds (lines from the corners of the lips to the jaw line)
  • Restoring volume and highlighting the cheekbones
  • Eye area (sunken eyes)
  • Chin and jawline sculpting

Each product contains lidocaine, which is a local anesthetic. Lidocaine numbs the area and makes your procedure painless. You may feel slight discomfort during and after the procedure. You can discuss this with your docotor prior the treatment.

The results after filler placement are beautiful, but temporary. They can last about one to two years depending on the formula. Retreatment is usually needed to maintain your results, which is usually around 12 months after the initial procedure.
After a complete lifting (liquid lift), the recommendation is to have a new consultation with our specialist 9-12 months after the initial procedure, in order to evaluate the results and consider possible future manipulations

In general, JUVÉDERM® fillers are considered safe and minimal side effects are observed. You may experience the following side effects post treatment:

  • redness
  • itching
  • bruising at injection sites
  • swelling and sensitivity
  • dryness

You should avoid alcoholic beverages, exposure to heat and vigorous exercise for the first 24 hours after the procedure. Exposure to any of these would cause temporary swelling, redness or itching at the injection site.

Apply ice to avoid swelling. Ask your doctor how long you should wait before applying makeup or any product to avoid a reaction.

Although very rare, sometimes more serious complications can occur due to injection of hyaluronic filler into a blood vessel, which are as follows:

  • delayed alergic reations
  • visual abnormalities
  • blindness
  • permanent scars

Aftercare

In terms of aftercare, the patient should avoid any strenuous activities that may cause increased blood flow to the treated area, as well as avoid exposure to extreme heat or cold. They should also avoid sun exposure, swimming and saunas for at least 24 hours after treatment.
